Fitted price, not a headline price
What we quote includes fitting, balancing and getting rid of the old tyre, so the figure does not grow at the counter.
Matched to your car properly
Correct size, load index and speed rating for what you drive — not the nearest thing in stock.
Told honestly when you can wait
If a tyre has legal life left we will say so. We would rather you came back than bought something you did not need.
What the law actually requires
The legal minimum tread in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre, right around the circumference — not just at the one spot you happen to check. The penalty is up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre, so a car on four illegal tyres is theoretically twelve points and a ban. Most tyres have moulded wear indicators in the grooves; once the tread is level with those, it is at the limit. Grip falls off well before that, particularly in standing water.
We also cover Winnersh, Barkham, Finchampstead, Emmbrook and Woosehill, all within a short run of the workshop.
Tyres fitted in Wokingham — common questions
- Where can I get tyres fitted near Wokingham?
- At our workshop on London Road in Bracknell, about five miles from Wokingham on the A329. Give us your size or your registration and we will confirm what we can get and when.
- How do I check my own tyre tread?
- A 20p coin is the quick test: put it in the main tread groove and if the outer band of the coin is visible, the tread is likely close to or below the limit and needs checking properly. Do it at several points around the tyre and across its width, since wear is often uneven.
- Do I need to replace all four tyres at once?
- Not necessarily, but replace in pairs across an axle where you can, and put the newer pair on the rear. Mixing very different tread depths or tyre types across an axle upsets the balance of the car, and on a four-wheel-drive car mismatched rolling radius can damage the transmission.
- What is the legal minimum tyre tread in the UK?
- 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tread, all the way around the tyre. Below that it is up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre, and grip in wet weather drops off well before you reach the limit.
- Do you need my registration or my tyre size?
- Either works. The size is moulded into the sidewall, like 205/55 R16 91V. If the car has had different wheels fitted at some point, the sidewall is the more reliable of the two.
