Towbar fitting

Towbar fitting in Hook

We fit towbars for Hook, Hartley Wintney and Odiham from our Bracknell workshop, about sixteen miles up the M3. Many of the trailers around here travel by motorway, whether that is a caravan for the coast or a car trailer heading for a track, so we make sure you know the rules for towing at speed.

Towing speed limits on the M3

Towing has its own speed limits: 50mph on single carriageways and 60mph on dual carriageways and motorways, even where the road limit is higher. On a motorway with three or more lanes, you must not use the outside lane while towing. Stability matters more at speed. Load the heaviest items over the trailer's axle, keep the nose weight within your bar's and your car's limits, and if the trailer starts to snake, ease off gently rather than braking hard.

We also cover Hartley Wintney, Odiham, North Warnborough, Rotherwick and Newnham, all within a short run of the workshop.

Towbar fitting in Hook — common questions

Do you fit towbars for Hook and Hartley Wintney?
Yes. We are about sixteen miles away in Bracknell via the M3 junction 5. Most fittings are done the same day.
How fast can I go when towing?
50mph on single carriageways and 60mph on dual carriageways and motorways, unless a lower limit applies. You also cannot use the outside lane of a motorway with three or more lanes.
What causes a trailer to snake?
Usually too little nose weight, a badly loaded trailer, or too much speed. Load the heaviest items over the axle, check the nose weight, and if it starts to snake, ease off the accelerator gently.
How much does towbar fitting cost?
Fitting is £120 for the job, not per part, so the bar and the wiring go on in the same visit for that one price. The bar and wiring kit are quoted on top and you'll see the full total before paying anything.
Can you fit a towbar I've already bought?
Yes. We'll fit a bar bought elsewhere, wire it in and test it. Give us the part number when you book so we can confirm the labour first.
